It all started with a box camera at age eight. I was fascinated with optical illusions and bubble gum cards that had images imbedded in them, and when you held them up to the sun, the image would appear in sepia tone…but when my dad gave me his old box camera, he had no idea he gave me the key to the universe.

In the early days, I would shoot a roll of film, run down to the corner drug store, to drop it off…and then wait for a week, until the film was developed, and I could finally see the “pixtures” I had taken. The anticipation was exhilarating!

As time went by, I learned how to develop my own film, then make contact prints, and finally when I got a brand new $35.00 Federal Enlarger for my birthday….the universe expanded further for me.

As time marched on, and my equipment improved and my art and photographic education improved, I started to realize that photography would be the one constant in my life. No matter what I would gain or lose, I would always have my passion for photography. Now, well into my sixties, I can honestly say that the same exhilaration and passion that I had at eight years old, is just as strong now when I’m making “Pixtures”.
